Porsche Taycan never qualified for $7500 tax credit. I believe most owners don't qualify anyway due to the limit base on personal income. The discount is offered by PFS, PFS can offers any discount base on market demand and call it whatever they like.
Agreed. Few if any Porsche buyers currently qualify for the EV credit on a purchase, and the car itself doesn't currently qualify for the purchase credit either. A leased car does qualify, but the Porsche lease rates are terrible, and at least in my area most people seem to buy their Porsche cars, not lease them. And, even if you do lease your Porsche EV, $7,500 off of $200K means less to someone who has some wealth than does $7,500 off of $50K to someone making less, so those EV incentives were always less important to Porsche than to say Kia.
I think it was a mistake to eliminate the incentives, yes, and they will harm EV sales. But Porsche I think will be less harmed than some of the other manufacturers.

I found it compelling enough to sign on the spot. The discount was real, the car is amazing, and it's new with delivery miles.
Yup!
So often the discounts are only on leases with various terms that compensate for the discounts.
Then we hear about dealerships with Taycans that they just can’t give away - and even aside from the hyperbole, the discount for an outright purchase is trivial.
(Reminds of people I know who claim they can’t sell a house despite trying everything. Did you lower the price significantly? Oh no, won’t do that!)

This is the part I don't understand... as a buyer, I would prefer a New car over CPO. Why are dealers so eager to sell cars to themselves and resell them as used? As a buyer, this seems lower value to me than a new car.
I purchased a CPO 2018 panamera 4S ST in 2018 with 8000 miles for $35,000 under MSRP. CPO cars had unlimited mileage on warranty, and I commute 25,000 miles/year. So it made a ton of sense for me. The main benefit is the extended warranty.

In contrast, I ordered my 2023 Taycan 4S CT, paid MSRP and am nearly out of warranty after 2 years of driving as there were no CPOs available during the pandemic.

I care about the car is brand new and every little detail when I purchase and planning to keep it for a long time.
If I lease a car for 1-3 years. I don't care as much, as long as the car is new enough and cost is right.

This is partially me talking up my own book, but IMO GTS inventory is very limited for the j.1.2. Granted many were not presold, but certain options will make them more desirable.

If you're generally flexible with options then wait and see strategy is good. Otherwise target the car you want and make aggressive offers.

When I searched for my GTS ST, only about 5% of the inventory matched my needs. Even after purchasing in October, I'm still tracking " what could have been", and I've seen only about 2 cars that subsequently came to the market that met my criteria, and all sold sooner than existing inventory, with one selling in less than 2 weeks. In other words, existing legacy inventory is sitting unsold for a reason.
I estimate there were only 52 STs for the US. That's how rare they are

The Porsche dealers I’ve spoken with in the U.S. are very eager to sell off their remaining Taycans by the end of September, when the $7,500 credit expires. One GM at a high-volume dealership told me he doesn’t want any more Taycans—he just wants them off the lot.

Additionally, no new Taycans will be produced for the next five months, as Porsche shifts production focus to the Macan EV.
Below are the annual income maximum to qualify for the one-time $7,500 tax credit in the USA. Thinking about the typical buyers profile for the Taycan, it would be a good bet that many of the buyers who purchase new will not qualify for the tax credit because their income is too high, so I’m not sure how much difference it really makes?

The maximum AGI limits for buying a new EV are:
  • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly or a surviving spouse.
  • $225,000 for heads of households.
  • $150,000 for all other filers (including single and married filing separately).

Moot point since the Taycan didn’t qualify regardless of the purchaser characteristics.
All EV leases by contrast qualified, although the money meant to the lease company not the driver.

I hope the taycan development doesn’t get a big budget cut as European brands pull back from EVs a bit.

The taycan kind of stands alone as a driver-focused EV sedan. The model S is nice but it’s very much software first, car second. BMW maybe, but they’re not on a dedicated EV platform right?

The current BMW EV models are on shared platforms. I often mistake our i4 M50 for ICE 4 series. But aside from the lack of a frunk, no apparent drawbacks. And is definitely driver-focused, even if not as good as the Taycan (but impressively close).
The upcoming Neue Klasse models are ... a new class entirely. Although I haven't figured out whether each EV model will have an ICE equivalent.
The iX3 sounds so good as to temp me into an SUV. (No, never!!!!)
If the i3 Touring is available in the U.S., then that will almost certainly be my eventual 4CT replacement.

I was at my dealer today for my incoming Taycan.
My sales guy said he believes the dealers got together

BMW is really going in on performance EVs, but with the flexible architecture platform.

Look at their Heart of Joy and the 1300hp M3 concept

The seden and sports seden market is too narrow of a market.
Macan EV makes more sense from a volume perspective

2nd hand market and dealer's lots always measure how correct is the 'new price'.

It is now proven, Taycan is generally overpriced. Should be 30-40k cheaper new.
The controversy is, to produce is expensive.

Market is clearly not swallow its price, Porsche can't reduce it, because of high production costs. In the car business it shows dark future for this excellent car.

Reliability issues and high service costs are also not help.

Without reducing production costs and prices significantly, the days of a Taycan are numbered, I am afraid.
It costs 50% more to service a Macan ICE than a Taycan at scheduled 2 year intervals - been there and done that.

At least on ICE Macan they are doing some real works as oil change.
For an EV Taycan service is expensive. Period.

Not true. Yes, there were/are income limits to the $7500 deduction. But "never qualified?" Simply FALSE! I qualified in 2022 on my "new" purchase, and received (and long ago spent :) the $7500. I humbly suggest a better tax planner
