And why only europe
Very good question...

I think you guys that "solved it" are just suffering from placebo.
I don't think anyone here is claiming disabling charge planner "solved it" - we're reporting what we're observing.

I will go on a 40km to an 40km back drive later tonight and try what you guys suggested also, disabling completely charging planner, but i don't see it working. I'm seeing the issue every day on my work commute, with 0 charging stops planned.
What I tried today (reported earlier in this thread) is exactly that: short commute with zero charging stops, but with charge-planner enabled. I'm interested to hear your findings.

@stoneriver you’re experiencing these issues too, right? And you’re based in the US?

I turned on nav to home this evening in Belgium for a 15 min journey. 2 mins in and the distance to go to next turn froze, stayed frozen until 2 mins after the junction when I turned off the charge planner and the nav updated and worked for the rest of the journey home.

Other Porsche/VW models having these navigation system issues, only Taycan only?

Okey, so I drove tonight ~80km, to be fair not a lot of turns, with the Porsche Charging Planner option in maps un-checked.

Turn by turn navigation indeed has not frozen once during this test drive.

So I can only assume that when that option is checked, the maps somehow communicates with the BMS (battery management system module), to get live data of the battery and to control the pre-conditioning of the battery.

It's wired that it happens even when there is no charging stop, if you have that option turned ON in the maps.

The BMS was recently updated for all of us, for the battery recalls (ARB6 & ARB7) - OTA or during a service visit - and the update gives extra work to the BMS, to record extra logs and send them OTA to porsche, constantly 24/7.

So I am assuming it is related to that, and the BMS is overwhelmed / lags out - and the maps is stuck in a waiting loop for a response from it.

But then again, why only Europe? They aren't using a different BMS for USA cars.

But using the porsche map without the Porsche Charging Planner defeats the whole purpose of using the porsche maps, that is to find chargers automatically, and pre-condition the battery, which mind you is the only way to do it. So this is definitely not an acceptable solution.

I am pleased it’s fixed for you as well but as you say it’s not helpful to those of us who need to charge along our journeys. Is there a way to turn off the battery update things?

I wonder if anyone at Porsche is monitoring this conversation, or if there’s a way to get them to as it is possible we are significantly further along in determining the root cause.

However, didn’t this start happening to some people before the updates?

If not, and we’ve ascertained the probable cause, I wonder if a solution is actually possible. It could be that the car is simply unable to monitor the BMS the new way and also run the preheating and communication with the range planning software.

if that’s the case, I would think we’d be all due a significant redress as this is a basic functionality removed from the car due to incompetence by the manufacturer.

Thanks for fact-checking — good that we at least have a temporary solution for shorter trips.

It’s actually not limited to Europe; I went through all the posts in this thread.

In my case, the problems started before the BMS update, so I’m not convinced there’s a direct link. I even did a factory reset on my vehicle to see if it would fix the ongoing navigation issues, and right after I got the OTA update

For clarification, for battery pre-conditioning to occur, Porsche Charging Planner option must be checked, and if it not checked, battery pre-conditioning will not occur., even if you manually enter a charger as the destination?

Haven't tested yet the scenario of navigating to a high speed charger with Porsche Charging Planner deactivated, but I will get the occasion to do it tomorrow.

I am assuming it won't work, as when I deactivate it, the charging locations disappear from the map all-together, so not sure it will see the charging locations as actual chargers.

Mine started freezing right around the time of the BMS. I couldn't give you an exact date, I just remember noticing the HUD freezing on several journeys around June/July time. But didn't think anything of it.

Going to try this workaround at the weekend - I rarely use the Charge Planner anyway, so no massive loss to me (not helpful to others thou), but I'm sure there will be an occasion when I need it and it all should work together.
