No chance Porsche will discontinue the Panamera in favor of the Taycan.

In 2025, the Porsche Panamera outsold the Taycan, with Panamera global deliveries totaling roughly 27,701 (including a 16.8% rise in the U.S. to 4,651). Conversely, Taycan sales dropped by 22% to 16,339 units globally due to slowing EV demand and high competition. U.S. Taycan sales were 4,142, down from previous highs.

They will simple merge them probably under name Panamera.
About platform strategy, there are specialist here not so much to add.

They should at least be more creative than that. Maybe Panacan or Taycamera.

Reading the CEO last quarterly letter, it sounds like both could be on the chopping block (which would be weird)... he indicated cutting the lower selling vehicles and I think it's those two.

Considering the sales numbers, r&d investment and marketing, I wouldn't be surprised if both get - canceled.

Unfortunate. I was waiting to put an order in on a Taycan 2.0 GTS to replace my 2020. Depreciation be damned. The Panamera is a bloated dog, with for me a brand image tied to an old fart's Cadillac.

My sales guy always tells me this too, Panamera is considered a higher model than Taycan

Why use meaningful labels when you can call them Segment A, B and C? I’m taking it as size segments rather than ranking, no bias 😆

There’s no way they’re axing a model they just introduced. They spent over a billion dollars developing it. What they may do is rename both cars 960, what was to be the original Taycan name.

Name is just a name can be anything, doesn't matter at the end.
If people are not ready to buy them on the volume that makes the shareholders sleeping well, this 1B$ development cost will be written off faster then a Turbo S goes.
Especially in the situation Porsche is sitting now.

Don't forget 928 was axed after its first life circle although was developed to replace the 911 originally.

928 had an 18 year run.

Taycan has a big chance for 12-15 year run with the intro of J1.3 to extend its life cycle. It is already 7 years old, J1.2 has min 3-4 years more and we are there.

Actually the other way in this rare case: Porsche created the J1 platform, Audi only reused it.
In addition to your reply, the Panamera is MSB, the RS7 is MLB, different platforms.

The "platforms" in Audi-speak isnt a true share, it's more of having commonality in certain points within the structure for an easier "marriage" aka, the point where the front subframe/engine can merge with the structure on the assembly line using similar/same robots, containing manufacturing assembly costs. Similar for the rear suspension subframe assembly, even if two different models have different suspensions itself.

Some certain hard points are engine mounts, subframe mounting points (although cars like the MQB have various extra mounting points that higher modeled cars use to increase rigidity), and dash-to-axle ratios to ease that marriage.

VW group touts this more as a "matrix" and not platform sharing in a traditional sense, or some propaganda that I'm repeating.
