J1.2

for a person who has just bought a new J1.2 this leaves a mixed feeling.

First, the dealer swears they did not know this was coming in any shape or form. For them, the existing gen is going to be around for the next 2-3 years for sure.

Second, the e-shift is, imho, irrelevant. I mean it is a funny feature and all, but honestly whatever. The battery is the same, the car and features are the same. The range increase at the expense of tires claim is cheeky.

Third, the PCM upgrade is, I think, the most relevant one here. They surely moved it closer to the Cayenne and Macan EV. Interestingly, I think Panamera is still running on the same original J1.2 PCM, from what I remember visually. Curious to when they are going to transition it (if at all) or wait for a proper facelift.
Would it be cooler to get an updated PCM? Yeah, I think it adds a "novelty" touch to an otherwise pretty "grown-in" car. The J.1.1 to J1.2 PCM update was there, but was also, at least visually, incremental. Is it a deal-breaker and would I sit and wait till fall to get the car instead of driving it already for half a year prior? Absolutely not.

It would also be nice to get this new PCM look as a software update, but we are talking about a Porsche, so we can politely go kick rocks

It would need more than just a software update - the newer MY adds compute power, so a new PCM unit needed as well

FWIW my dealer also knew nothing about the MY27 changes but that confirms to me this is being seen as a MY update not a version update (J1.3 etc)

I had a 2026 Macan EV loaner for a week. It was not snappy and I had a ton of issues connecting Apple carplay and constant connection drops.

In contrast my J1.2 has been very good. IMO PCM is set it and forget it for the most part.
I run Carplay for Waze (for cops), phone and text. Not a lot of interaction with it.

Only issue has been intermediate Lane keep activating here and there.

For those who saw yesterday’s short official Porsche E-shift video and thought it was lacking (I did), today’s new Porsche E-shift , posted in # 77 above thanks to Jin, it is a far more in depth, much improved one. Well worth my time today.

it is fair. Carplay is working flawlessly in the J1.2, which was the only thing I was struggling with in J1.1

being in a 1.1 I've not experience 'push to pass' in person yet, but moving the activation of it into a 'double pull' of the padels feels more intuitive* than feeling around to press a button.

*not that I've ever though "hmm I could do this overtake even faster"

Carplay doesn't connect automatically often for me (I don't use it that much though). It's usually easily resolved by flipping bluetooth off and on, on the phone, but annoying.

Even better is the MApEV tune that gives you full power (and an extra 200 hp in your 4S) all the time.

I think it’s ridiculous some EV manufacturers make you push extra buttons or go into launch modes to get full power.

That’s something my last car (Mach E GT) did right. No modes, no buttons, just full power on demand by mashing the throttle.

deep-dive into e-shift

Very interesting about how it works. Sounds like it actually will hurt performance but could make some driving more “fun” with the audible and physical feedback.

That said, I’m betting it’s a “toy” that you’ll use a couple times and turn back off until you take someone else for a test drive to show it off.

My last car (Mach E GT) had a track focused setting (unbridle extend) that made the car slower but could do laps on a track. Tried it once in 4 years and never used it again. Same as everyone else on the forums.

Exactly my thoughts. As my MY26 gets delivered this weekend. Didn’t want to cancel the order at literally the last second, then wait another year possibly. PCM updates or cpu could be avail if I care enough. The PCM look is all about the touchpad area which is small even in the side by side pic I posted. Meh

Agreed.. would sit along side the remote park assist and cooled seats for me as stuff used less than half a dozen times!

sure sure id get to experience the full range of “gears” on my daily 5 mile drive where I average 26mph 😆

(I’m sure I’ll still be adding it if it’s priced reasonably! )

Yeah in London I imagine you use cooled seats about as often as I use heated seats in Florida. 😂

That said, I wouldn’t trade either for fake gear shifts.

I honestly don’t think we are the target market anyways.

It’s a gimmick for the “non-EV” crowd to try to fight the complaints that performance EVs “have no soul.”

The problem is that those same people think the fake sounds are worse than no sound.

Borla makes an aftermarket sound generator for EVs. I don’t think anyone bought it. It also did nothing to help the sales of the Dodge Charger EV.
