The Macan EV with Comfort Access has it - no need to turn off power, just get out with say CarPlay playing and shut the door & walk. Car shut down, park selected

Approach the car, CarPlay starts and power on as you open the door, buckle seat belt and drive away. Works every time.
The Taycan comfort access does that I believe but I have a habit of turning it off first, get out, then press the button on the door to lock it. I meant you have to have the fob on you but not saying you have to click it.

Taycan doesn't have walkaway locking as far as I'm aware. They added soft close doors as an option and for some reason didn't make locking the same as the Macan EV (992.2 doesn't have it either but oddly the mirros fold when you use the app to lock whereas the Taycan in my ownership never did).

We were at a wedding, and a guy at our table was filming with his phone and drained the battery so he couldn't get the door open to his tesla. I guess he didn't carry the key card, but the point is you still need to carry something as a backup for something like this.
On my MachE, I can enter the car using the keypad on B pillar, then enter a Password on the screen if I forgot my phone, or key.

Yesterday I was driving my daughter's Mach e without having a key. I accidentally left my iPhone in the car, locked it and walked away. Luckily Ford has iPhone as a key, but also has the keypad on the door pillar, so I entered the code and then drove off. Having this additional method really makes a difference.

The Ford door pillar code is useful for all kinds of situations (has been for decades). I don't know why other manufacturers haven't copied that feature, maybe its been patented 17x different ways?

The MyPorsche app has been listed in the Apple App Store as ”supporting” wallet for many years now with no obvious ”wallet” functionality visible. Which makes me suspect that this CarKey support – which is a wallet function – has been in the works for sometime.

CarKey also support both Bluetooth and NFC implementations – which I’d be hopefully (bluetooth at least) hardware has been in their cars for sometime.

I think there is a real chance this will come to existing cars.
I just found out why they have wallet support listed. You can add the Porsche Charging Card to Apple wallet. So I hope your guess is right, my guess is that they did not do any development for Carkey (yet?)

edit; also access to the Porsche Charging Lounge is a feature to add to Apple Wallet

PAAK on my Rivian worked flawlessly. Getting used to carrying a key FOB again is annoying. Would be a very welcome addition.

MY'2026 Macan EV now lists digital key as a $280 option…Taycan MY'2026 option is still absent - no word on retrofits for MY 2024/2025 Macan EV's - also not an option in any other MY'2026 Porsche at this time in the North American configurator…

so the Macan EV is still the exclusive platform for:
  • AR HUD
  • and now Digital Key option
