Agree with the first bit. Don't see why a dealer would fib about cancelled orders.

There is absolutely sod all chance of a GE giving any respite though. Both major parties are at peak moron and the minor parties reached that years ago.

What we need is for both major parties to split.

Both parties splitting with an election imminent will do nothing. We need a commitment to political reform- until now looks like we will get Starmer and arguably a more ‘in touch ‘ and less corrupt Government. That should stabilise things.

Political reform won't happen while the two big parties remain intact. It is not in their interests to change the system

Would give Porsche a nice buffer for that 20% figure. They sold 18k cars ish last year. 13k non-Taycan. 2,600 Taycans (and Macans maybe) needed next year to avoid a penalty for each ICE car sold... 750ish unregistered now but registered next year... ?

It will likely only be the stock they currently have which aren't already pre-registered. My dealer advised that they didn't expect to take delivery of many new Taycans (factory fresh) in Q1 given the stock they already had + facelift in Q2

Hi all, first post on this forum - thanks for all the useful info I've gained from lurking in the past couple of months!

100% agree with this. I've just changed out of my M3 Touring (great car and was somewhat upset to see it go!) and now have a GTS ST through my business (as it just makes much more sense from a financial perspective). It's the only reason I changed and I certainly wouldn't have entertained putting through a Taycan personal contract. The maths on the Taycan make much more sense if you're a business owner and the current tax breaks also swayed me (after some deliberation) to go for a new car (albeit a canceled order with a serious chunk off) rather than a used one.

I was somewhat underwhelmed by my first Porsche buying experience though.....A 'top' salesperson at Guildford didn't respond to my email inquiry (intro through a friend who is one of their 'RS' customers) or phone call. Nothing. Then popped to Reading a couple of weeks later, spent 2 hours with one of their salespeople, had a good test drive, and agreed on a handful of cars that he was going to run some numbers on......didn't hear another thing and wasn't about to chase on principal. No wonder there are so many cars on forecourts, new and used...

Ended up dealing with Porsche Aberdeen who were fantastic, did a deal remotely, and had the car delivered down to me, some 500-odd miles south!

Only a few weeks in and thoroughly enjoying the GTS overall, very different wagon to my last one, but the only EV that tickled my fancy, and I've tried most of them.

I think this is maybe misleading because it only applies to leasing a new Taycan if you currently have a lease for “a competitive vehicle”. I also don’t think the Taycan qualifies for Federal Tax Credit any more because of qualification limitations (vehicle price too high, low buyer income caps, manufacturing restrictions).

Agreed on the significant caveat of how the discounts apply only to leasing -- the Porsche financial subsidiary will find a way to make back a chunk of those discounts via the various lease terms.
The tax credit is received by the financial services subsidiary from the U.S. Treasury for any business purchasing any EV (regardless of vehicle cost, battery origin, place of manufacturer, etc.).
Porsche is offering a $7,500 discount that is tied into the federal tax credit on a promotional basis, but it has no direct relationship.
(And once again, Porsche will be sure to retain some portion of that $7,500 on net via the lease terms despite the promotional claim to be passing it through to the lessee.)

True, but it should be possible to get out of the lease minimizing those clawbacks. I recently did this with an Audi eTron, paid off the lease before the first payment was due (technically second as the initial paperwork included first payment). Encountered no problems with the payoff (it was all automated) other than title issuance, which was delayed as the leasing company did an e-release of the title before it was issued by the state, and they didn't have the title on file at the time of payoff completion. End result is when I called them 4 months later they realized they did receive the title at some point but because the lease was already paid off there was no event (payoff) to trigger sending me the title. A quick call and they said they are sending it out, but it was just before the holidays so they warned it might take a few days longer over the holidays. So it costed me $899 plus 2 weeks of interest to get a $7,500 lease incentive.

The answer appears to be that Congress didn't think through the implications of giving $7.5k (or more precisely, forgoing $7.5k in income tax revenue) for every EV purchased by a business.
I looked into buying, registering, and insuring both our i4 and Taycan in the name of my business -- would have saved me $15k on 2023 income taxes!
But given that my business is just a sole proprietorship, with no insurance or other formalities, the add'l costs and various other hoops led me not to bother.
(Admittedly, this might have been a big mistake leaving $15k on the table, which I'll be paying in April, so any of you small biz owners -- even if it's just a one-person consultancy -- might want to look into that, especially since potential complications vary by state.)

I did not though look into leasing our i4 and then almost immediately buying out the lease, since BMW was not offering that promotional discount on the M50 trim at the time. And I bought my Taycan used.
If I were buying new now though, I would look into the lease-then-buyout option, but I would also be on my guard.
Sounds like @whitex made out well on that, but I know in some states tax is levied both on the lease and then on the buyout, plus in general I'm wary of what dealers and financial services subsidiaries might try to sneak in there.
