My suspicion is still comms. I think we have all been there with our phones. You see a signal (a couple of bars) but your browser still hangs. My feeling is that this is made worse by the "internet of things", which is like roaming on your phone. When you use your phone at home, your phone always hooks up to one network. When you are roaming, it grabs any old network and some just don't love you. When you watch the Taycan, it hops from network to network and some will just be poorer than others. That said, I know not of any functionality where you could program preferred network providers.

PS: Could be a brain-dead implementation of live traffic data. Might be worth turning that off to see whether that improves matters.

This is an interesting thought - I was about to dismiss it with a "Navigation uses GPS and mapping data stored on the harddrive" but I have the Google Maps overlay running on mine which must be grabbing the data from somewhere. Any kind of stall in receiving this data could lock up maping updates... Just a random thought - Do other people use Google Maps overlay?

I do, I did a factory reset recently and did not use it for a week. Same issues without the overlay. It really is a SW issue

The only thing that changed software wise on mine was the WRS0 update - I don't remember ever having an issue before that update...

What's that? (I sense an opportunity to learn something new.) My live traffic data arrives courtesy of Porsche Connect.

It overlays the maps with the satellite view from Google Maps. There is a toggle in the bottom right hand corner of the maps (if I remember correctly) called Satellite View.

I had issues two weeks before WRS0 OTA

Today was the worst it’s ever been. Drove 40 miles to a golf course that I’ve not visited before. On the way there, the Navigation reset itself 4 times and on restart forgot the destination at each occasion.
The same happened on return with the final reset about 2 minutes from home.

I’m going to have to book the car in at Porsche as it’s now not usable.

if anybody has any ideas about how to improve or fix it would be gratefully received.

Long thread about this hanging navigation problem in German Taycan forum. No real diagnosis or solutions offered.

I would say up until June this year it’s been perfect.

today was unusable. The PCM didn’t reboot, only the nav section. I even managed to take photos.

Going to ring Porsche in the morning to get it booked in. They must have updated something that caused this.

They need to update the navigation module, but there is no campaign, so it's not happening
Is this a confirmed fact or just a guess about the navigation module?
Even without a campaign, they should still be able to address it to mitigate the issue.

What I do know for certain is:
  • Upgrading to 3885 does not fix it
  • A factory reset of the car does not fix it
  • A two-finger reset does not fix it
My car is going to the dealer on September 9th, and I won’t take it back until the problem is resolved. It’s driving me crazy, I keep missing turns because the HUD and cluster show the wrong turn-by-turn instructions.

I tried searching the 911, Panamera, and Cayenne forums to see if those platforms experience the same issues, but found nothing. It really seems like a J1.1-specific problem. Very strange that we’re all running into this without any indication that an update happened in the background.

Map updates happen all the time in the background.

What I suspect happened is that the map updates are not being tested on the navigation module software that is in most j1.1 - as there are 2 newer versions of it out - and this hypotesis is being confirmed by gtm, which doesn't have this problem, who coincidentally got an update to the navigation module.

I also made an appointment for the issue at the dealer, a new one, but sadly only end of september - she said it should be a 30min fix, so no need for replacement car. So she seemd to be aware of it.
