I helped my MIL buy a car at a Hyundai dealer...they had Chargepoint and I was running low so I plugged in while we did the deal.

I was quite shocked at the rate of $0.70/kWh, apparently set by the dealership.

Of course I didn't realize until I was done...

There is a charging station that charges $0.95 kw. I use it when in the area because it's the only fast charging station within 35 miles.

Yes, high electricity rates suck.

Ouch.

On a semi-related note, I’ve been staying at a particular hotel near our corporate HQ partially because they’ve been offering free Tesla Destination Chargers.

They recently replaced those with temperamental CCS chargers, and I found out this week that they’re now charging a flat $15.00 fee to activate the chargers.

I’m a regular, so they’ll often zero out the cost of the charge but still…

Worse reliability and higher cost are a crappy combination. ?

Spare a thought for us in the uk where we frequently pay 75p, 80p or more per kWh in public charging. Currently charging an EV away from home is more expensive than petrol or diesel

And to add to that... there are some places that also charge for the time !!!
So you pay the £0.85/ kWh, and you pay an additional £0.20/ minute of keeping the car plugged in.

Welcome to the world of energy prices in the UK.

Gridserve were 69ppkWh...on the A1 they are now 79ppkWh.

BP Pulse were 83p. No idea what they are now.

I guess they need to pay for their infra costs somehow, but with retail electric being 31p, or 7.5p off peak, it does feel like gouging.

This is why I started looking at investing in companies that will have major stakes in EV charging… they are going to make a killing the margins are nuts.

The new oil ;-)
In EU, this would be quite normal with the energy crisis…
