I confess that prior to purchasing my Taycan, I really didn’t do much research into the vehicle at all. I just knew that I was finally going to get another Porsche (empty nester here), and that it was a truly gorgeous looking car. After receiving the car two months ago it has been an absolute joy to drive even with a couple of minor issues that were resolved by turning the car off and then back on again. Since getting the car and joining this forum, I have been frankly stunned by the number and nature of some of the complaints with the vehicle. Probably the scariest to me is this “red screen“ that happens to some people. My question is: does this still happen in model year 2023 or is this something that has been rectified through a software update or something? (And just what is/was the cause of the “red screen“?). As always, I really do appreciate everyone’s input.

It's the nature of a forum like this to see a "concentration" of problems...don't fret!...I've had mine for almost 3 years and it's been lots of fun and generally reliable. (And you have a 4 year warranty!)....this stuff is still a little bleeding edge - so you need to be comfortable with that. (if not, sell it!)..just enjoy!

I have an early 22 4S and never experienced anything resenbling a 'red screen'. The PCM will occasionally reboot mid-drive and go blank for a few minutes.

I do have the latest update which has fixed a lot of the software gremlins. If your car does not, that would be the first step.

My 2022 GTS never had the red screen problem, whatever it was. It has other issues.

I have a very early MY2020 Turbo and have had some heater fault, 2 x red screes (one likely a false alarm), AC charger issues etc etc.. I have enjoyed 56k km of long distance driving, and do not regret getting the car. Yes at times it has been frustrating, but overall it just is a great car to drive and use.

Car is at present in a garage 2500 km away from me to get the red screen issue fixed. Said to be two modules in the battery plus a HV Battery Control Unit. Problems now is parts supply with the shortage of electronic spares, but will get right.

I anticipated a bit that there could be issues with a completely new model and technology, and ther has been a lot. Both HW and SW issues. But after the last big uPdate things were working well. Still have a lot of glitches in the PCM and navigator, but using CarPlay I have not had a delay or got irritated by the PCM gremlins. Porsche is not great at SW in the PCM or the app, but the car essential driving SW is great. Feels like a Porsche and drives like one.

Do not get nervous about issues. And if you have 4 year warranty you are well covered. Here in France there only is a 2 year warranty, which is very short compared to modern cars. But that is Porsche Tax

I’ve had zero issues in my almost year of ownership of a 2021 Taycan Turbo S. Well, except crappy mpg and tire wear from my inefficient driving ?

The error can happen to any model year Taycan. BUT, welcome to the internet. You see the issue people have, but people who don't have problems don't keep on posting "My Taycan doesn't have the red screen" every day they don't see it, hence your skewed perception.

Perhaps I can better illustrate with accidents, are you afraid of driving a car because accidents happen every single day? On average 100 people die in car accidents in the USA. You can find plenty of youtube videos of accidents - a lot more than of cars driving without any accidents.

That said, speaking of accidents, I highly recommend a front+back dashcam. In my family all cars get dashcams on day 1, and the money saved on two accidents so far by proving fault of the other parties, has more than paid for all the dashcams in the family.

I'm sorry for my ignorance but I don't see that red warning often lately...
In the beginning it was not common either but occasionally it happend, now it's really rare so I think you should put things in perspective.
There are over 100.000 Taycans sold so yes, there will be gremlins but not as often as it seems.

I think there will be different views.
My experience MY 22 CT 4S was awful- think I had pretty much all the reported problems some more than once. Aggravated by OPC being overwhelmed with cars with problems.

REPLACEMENT MY 23 identical model delivered in March has had Zero problems over 4000 miles apart from OPC fitted dash cam rear camera- waiting a month to be fixed.

I would agree that you're going to see more problems reported on a forum like this that would be the 'average' for the general population of Taycan owners. I can offer a couple points. First, there is no better way to diagnose/identify/solve a problem than to visit this forum to get the absolute latest information on any issues that are current with the car.

Second is that this is the first car of it's type developed by Porsche, and there will always be more problems with a car in its first few years, especially one that incorporates as much new technology as the Taycan. This is just the way engineering and product development work. At this point, the Taycan is below average in reliability (according to consumer reports). I didn't buy the car for reliability, I bought it for driving enjoyment, knowing that I would be experiencing a number of issues, especially since my Turbo S was one of the first delivered in the US.

I would guess that the current Taycans are quite a bit more reliable than the first few years, and Porsche is a high quality manufacturer, so I'll bet the 2023 and beyond reliability is above average. I wouldn't worry about it, and enjoy driving an incredible car!

I think @Vim Schrotnock says it quite well. When I was looking for my first EV I wanted a car with excellent driving characteristics, excellent fit and finish, CarPlay compatability, and from a manufacturer that I was certain would be here in 10 years or more. Porsche checks all of my boxes.

Am I disappointed with the PMCC charger? Such am! Porsche hasn't even fixed the damn thing yet, but cost of fixing the problem in my garage has been low with other EVSE's at sub-$800 prices. Irritating, yes. Deal-breaker, no.

Am I disappointed that I read of some people having the RED Screen of Death problem? Sure I am, and I hope each of them gets the problems fixed quickly and permanently.

Personally, I expected to have some problems because of the newness of this technology, and the fact that Porsche was on EV #1, but honestly my problems have been minor (the biggest being the HV Heater replacement that took 3 weeks to source the part).

I don't have any regrets about buying 2 Taycans (2020 4s and 2021 4s), and I'm looking forward to my next Porsche EV. All of that said, Porsche better get its act together on Fast DC charging connector and infrastructure soon, or my plans for another Porsche EV may get derailed.

Damn! That would be disappointing.
