Hi, Is anyone here from the UK using the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus to charge their Taycan at home and able to achieve 7.2 kw output with the 32A Commando plugs and socket. If you do, I would really appreciate your feedback and experience of adopting this method in charging the Taycan. Thank you.

My car arrived in May, the supplied charger was the Mobile Charger (not plus) but it is also rated for 7.2kw at 32A.
It was fitted via the Porsche UK/Andersen EV arrangement. I asked the local guys first but they did not want to get involved with an unfamiliar charger.
There was also another (black) box they fitted to meet some regs or other as well as a mini consumer unit.
I can select 50% or 100%, with the latter I get 6.9kw at the car. At 100% the unit is only slightly warm to touch.

Thank you James for sharing that with us, very helpful indeed. I love your setup and and layout, looking really neat and tidy. Can I ask you please what was the installation charge for all this work from Porsche Andersen, also how long did they take to complete the work Do you think I might be able to get the same level of services from Porsche dealer in London and South of England?

It should work with the plus (which became the universal charger with MY23). The differences I think are that the plus can be connected to 3 phase and supply 11kW whereas the newer universal can’t. The cable of the plus is a bit thicker and stiffer, presumably because it can run at a higher power

I had a 32A commando giving between 6.8-7.1kw delivered via the Mobile Charger+ - rock solid

I had a separate oversized 32A supply (actually 40A diameter) run from the meter tails (to protect the house) to an isolation switch in the garage - then a metal clad EV compatible open PEN fault protection device (Garo) - to an interlocked commando with a slight downward angle to ease pressure form the weight of the charger cable - a simple garden hose saddle as storage

The cost for the lot was <£700 parts and labour - and it was a long complex run for the cable - all very neat - The car uses the mobile charger+ as it's EVSE - and it's own onboard charger

had the same set up fitted to my daughter's house for around £600 with a simpler shorter cable run

I had two 32A Commando sockets installed in my double garage, one either side, positioned about 1m in side garage doors so I can charge either in the garage or on the drive. Installer tapped into the meter tails using a Henly block then new tails to new Fusebox brand metal garage 6 way consumer unit fitted with surge protection and RCBO Type A circuit breakers. Cost was £500.

The charge depends on the survey and installation required. The work here was completed in a morning.

Hi

Photos attached. The tails from the meter came through the garage wall and ran up the wall in the black conduit you can see in the photos. The installer fed these onto a new Henly block and then new tails into the existing 100amp isolating switch and a second set into the new distribution board. Then fed the two 32A commando sockets with 6mm cable.
My installer only works locally but I looked on Check a trade and then emailed 4 electricians with a description of what I needed. Fusebox are by far the cheapest brand for the distribution board so I specified that with surge protector and RCBO Type A for each circuit. I would specify double pole RCBOs. Single pole is fine with the Porsche charge as it has built in L and N isolation if it trips but double pole only adds a couple of pounds to the cost.

Sorry Hien Searched and can't find any - and moved out of the house a few months ago. The electrician I used is just local to South Devon sorry.

Its a very straight forward set-up though - spec like this - All do be done to comply with current IEE regs BS 7671 as follows:

Using henley blocks connect a new 32A EV power supply directly to the to house meter tails. This new 32A power supply to be suitably clipped to the wall and run to the 'garage' following a route to be agreed or (following route as agreed in discussion) - The cable is to be armoured and oversized at 40A rating - the power supply equipment in the garage is to include - 32A single phase isolation switch - to a metal clad, EV compatible, Open PEN fault protection device such as that made by Garo (you could ask for more than one way)- to a 32A single phase industrial (blue commando) socket

If outdoors specify isolator and PEN device to be mounted internally and wire run outside to a 32A single phase industrial (blue commando) socket suitable for outdoor use - minimum IP56 rated preferably higher - you could even mount inside a suitable lockable equipment box - but that is bulky) - if you wish you could specify the socket as being interlocked (that means you can only remove the plug when its switched off and can't switch it on without a plug connected) - Note: Those sockets with a slight downward slope ease the strain from the heave Porsche charger cable - but make sure you can connect as the Porsche Charger plug also has an angle.

Most new evse including Porsche Mobile Charger has inbuilt PEN protection which complies with Amendment 1 to 18th edition so no need to install additional PEN detection device or earthing rod.
Also no need for your installer to inform DNO for commando socket installations. Mine told me he needed consent from DNO to install two Commando sockets as potentially I could connect two EVSEs. I emailed the DNO who said Commando sockets are not subject to EVSE notification or consent requirements so installer can just get on with it.
