When you drive them back to back there is less noise of all kind - road noise, exterior noise and so on. Just quieter overall.

This is because with the noise insulated glass the glass absorbs much more of the sound and causes fewer reflections. So it dampens all sounds. Higher frequencies are damped more than low rumble, but even low rumble is lower.
Specifically it takes out the "hum", which is just 2nd and 3rd order reflections bouncing around the cabin.

The difference is massive when you try two of the same cars with the same size wheels and tyres back to back. I drove the exact same route on the same day and the difference was enough that I would never get a CT/ST without the insulated glass.
Me too and agreed.

it is more like wind noise from courner of the window for me
Well now you just confused everyone.

Not sure how anyone can diagnose a noise for you without an extremely detailed description……. Or us hearing a noise.

Either take a video or be more descriptive. 🤷‍♂️

If it’s a question as to whether or not wind noise is normal at a certain speed, yes it is. It’s more obvious because the car is so quiet.

What wheels/brakes do you have?

I recently switched from a J1 to a J1.2 and I notice a new sound I haven't had on my previous two Taycans.

There are many differences from my previous cars though; this is my first with power charge port doors, and the previous car had the noise-insulating glass.

My sound is kind of wind-driven with a metallic edge to it, audible over 60mph or so, and increases with speed. It seems to be transmitted up the steering column, as the sound is perceptibly quieter if I move up closer to the windshield.

It's bugging me, as I didn't have this on the other two cars.
I think I’ve heard this sound before and have addressed both on mine- it’s either:
1) the pen holder in the glove box (I have applied felt tape to mine); in a 2025 loaner, the license plate was jammed in the glovebox and it was in contact with this pen holder and making noise.

2) when you hear this sound, try putting your hand on either the top plastic cover of the steering rack or the leather shroud piece- between the steering wheel and the instrument panel; if the sound goes away, it’s because of flimsy plastic attachment points; gently remove and apply felt.

I have #2 as a separate sound from the metallic hiss I’m mentioning. I haven’t really posted on that one as the cause and fix is pretty clear; like you I can put my hand on the top of the steering column to stop it.

Maybe my hearing loss is a blessing in that I don't hear any of these hisses.

Quick question for fellow Taycan owners: I am a new 2026 4S owner: Is it normal to notice a fair bit of road noise in a Porsche Taycan, particularly on rougher UK road surfaces?

I’m not sure whether what I’m hearing is expected given the tyres and low profile, or if it’s something worth getting checked. Interested to hear others’ experiences before I start chasing ghosts at the dealer.

Thanks in advance 👍
I find the road noise varies a lot with road surface. I try to stay off motorways but have travelled on M4, M40, M6 and M54 a bit and it is shocking how the noise changes from almost silent to impossible to hear the radio from one stretch to another made very obvious when a repair is not long and you haven't become accustomed to the sound volume yet.
My summer tyres on 21" wheels are noisier than my winter tyres on 20" wheels and have a noticably poorer ride (but I prefer the styling of the 21" CT wheels to all other Taycan options)

I've got a friend who rally's cars and has been playing with a Tesla rally car for fun. He's got a sponsorship from one of the Asian tire companies (I forget) but he was telling me they have tires with special noise cancelling inserts that reduce road noise, and you can buy aftermarket insert. He's saying the vehicle weight and non engine noise amplifies the road noise issue.

Anyone tried inserts or EV specific tires with them?

I think the Hankook tires have foam inserts that are alleged to decrease tire noise

Tires are noisiest when they are new plus when approaching the end of their practical tread depth. If you have a new car or new tires drive for a couple of thousand miles and should get quieter.
I'm in an environment where I need all season M+S Tires so I run Michelin Cross Climate 2's. Very quiet especially considering the tread aggressiveness.

I recently got a 2025 Gen 2 loaner and did some long distance driving on it. It had noticably lower tire noise vs my Gen 1 RWD (especially from rear tires). Both cars had 21 inch wheels riding on Conti RXs. I believe they added more sound insulation in tire wells in the gen 2.

Interestingly I did notice some odd wind noise coming from A pillars of the loaner at highway speeds, that I never experienced in my Gen 1. The only two things I could think of was 1- the power charge door (which my car does not have) and 2- slightly different aerodynamics otherwise.

Road noise from tyres is a weakness point of the Taycan.
My Defender is better insulated and quieter at the same speed. So is my 2001 Volvo!
Road noise from tyres is on pair with any VW Golf or Ford Focus.
Gen 1.1 CT much worse than my gen1.2 4 door.
21” with Pirelli doesn’t help…
Now on 20” winter Pirelli tyres and it is much less noisy.
Might be better foot well and arches insulation in gen 1.2?

Wider tires, performance tires, lower car, and no engine noise to drown it out.

We definitely have better insulation than a Golf or Focus, but the above things all impact the noise.
