The 19.2Kwh charger that came on my 2023 Taycan GTS crapped out and my dealership is saying “Porsche is downgrading the onboard chargers to 11kw. So we are going to replace the current onboard charger with 11kw charger with new wires.”. I installed a 100Amp circuit at home to take advantage of it although I haven’t been charging it at home lately (and I think I read they limited them to 9.6Kwh anyway). Do I give up and say yes to the 11Kwh? A part of me feels like they should compensate me somehow as I spent $1.6K extra on the option when I got the car and now I simply can’t use it.

Plenty of related threads on here. Use forum or google search for '22kw'.

Did anyone initiate a class action on the 11Kw to 9.6Kw downgrade?
You forfit that right as soon as you accept, with or without compensation.
And most people accepted, so i don't think a class action lawsuit is ever going to happen.

I don't think you can decline it. They only have the 11kw replacement parts. In my case the car also would not shift into D with the OBC charger in a faulted state, so no real way to decline it.

They will give you a letter from Porsche NA when the fix is done that directs you to call Porsche NA to discuss compensation for the cost of the option now removed.

I experienced this same issue last week. I'm based in Portugal. I was offered 1-year of Porsche Warranty on top of the current warranty for having a downgrade on the original OBC (on board charger) - in my case from 22Kw to 11Kw. In reality I would probably never use 22Kw at home and rarely out the street. I'm currently waiting for the new part to arrive to fix my car.

In my case, the OBC broke and the car would not engage R or D. At the same time, the 12V battery drained empty and nothing worked from that moment. This is something that I recommend all Taycan owners to check with Porsche and have the OBC replaced before it breaks unexpectedly - even though I'm not sure Porsche will ever issue a recall. For the brand reputation, I think that is what they should have done. I got really annoyed by this...

This is exactly what happened to me as well. The 12V battery drained and all I could do was put the car on Neutral and push it out of the garage. I wonder if they’ll also have to change the 12V battery.

My dealership is saying they’re installing the 11Kw OBC and asking me to call 1-800-PORSCHE to discuss compensation. Very annoying.

I hope that's not the case because apparently the 12V battery is not under warranty (even though my car still is, Porsche says the 12V battery is not covered - which would be a mess because that fail was due to the OBC fail). Here in Portugal, replacing the 12V battery costs roughly 2000 Euros (2200 USD)

Here I didn't have to call Porsche. The dealership took case of that for me and immediately offered the 1-year additional warranty. It may be different from market to market.

Mine failed for the 2nd time, and I refused the downgrade. As a result car is at the dealer and zero communication whatsoever from them despite my attempt. Lawyer on the case. To me the 22kW OBC is paramount, actually I traded in fairly new 4s CT for a Turbo S with 22kW capability. Consumer rights in the Netherlands are strong, gladly, as to me it is an option I do not want to miss. I have heard rumours that new 22kW are out there, but cannot confirm. In the next 14 days I will know of another 22kW will be installed.

Hence I refused. I want a 22kW OBC, not a 11kW.

They do indeed have a new 22kW OBC, at least in switzerland. They have it as a spare part.
But only on the new Cayenne EV and as a spare part for the Cayenne EV.

Porsche Taycan 19.2Kwh downgrade to 11Kwh 1780078670075-rj

My dealer said there is no service bulletin about installing it in a Taycan or Macan EV yet.
He could be wrong or intentionally missleading, wouldn't be the first time - taycan customers are hated by porsche and dealerships :D

That's only fair cuz I doubt you don't get any warranty on a new 22kW OBC (if even available) if you insist in replacing it with the original 22kW one...

Wait till you learn that they then nerfed the 9.6 to 8.5!
