My Taycan has about 3 years of life, 86.000km and I truly love it. It's hard to think of another car to replace mine and I'll certainly won't buy the same car again. So far winter time is the enemy since I've never seen ranges above 360km on normal driving, and really fast driving is gets down to 300km. From 100%.

My question is..

Do you think there are going to be aftermarket companies who will create more efficient and lighter 800V batteries? It's a dream to have 200kg less, more efficient, 600km range on an older Taycan. Batteries are not writen in any official document, only engine code, so fitting a new battery can't be that hard. Any opinions?

This is what I hope for as well. Would love to buy 120kWh aftermarket battery for 20k USD in 10 years. In terms of effeciency and power there is not much more significants improvements you can do in EVs anyways. Taycan 3 will be pretty much same as this one except software, self driving and battery stuff.

most likely un-necessary…

https://www.macanevowners.com/forum...may-last-up-to-40-longer-than-expected.18372/

unless there is a defect these batteries don't tend to fail - just have less capacity over time, but still function - so at what point in "range loss" do you actually need a new battery if it's still working?

I think there will be better ways to spend the money on really really newer EV tech vs. retrofitting into older EV's…

Nope, definitely won't happen. There will be modules and even whole batteries available for cheap, for example pulled from other vehicles - in fact they are already available - but it won't make sense for any third-party to offer a custom Taycan battery.

It would be good if we could jail break the reserve capacity.

IMO, reducing battery weight from 600 to 200kg may influence how the car drives and make it worse. The suspension will have to be rebuilt

so not sure it makes much sense

If I find myself in the unfortunate position of needing a battery outside of warranty, I'll probably get one off eBay from a wreck.

Because as others noted, a new battery will cost more than the car is worth.

IMHO not really an issue when you want to keep the car for longer. Having a new and more reliable option is worth a lot, but arguably not at the expense of a whole new car either. (We have an 12y old car in the family, a regular service can cost more than the car is worth. :giggle:)
Judging by the current failure rates, and we’re only 4y into this, I would be interested in upgrading the battery when it fails the first time. I’ve said this many times before, it’s a shame OEM’s don’t see any business in updating/upgrading older packs.

If Porsche sold a million Taycans a year, then sure, but at current volumes, those batteries would have to cost more than a new Taycan to make it worth while for a 3rd party to design, qualify (homologation per country), manufacture and sell an automotive HV battery. Then there would be the risk. If your Dyson catches on fire when using a cheap no-name battery replacement, not a huge deal. If your 100kWh battery catches on fire, much different story.

Assuming not too much changed platform wise, best you could get is battery from the 2025 facelift.
