The thing I've noticed on this forum over the last 3 years.

It started off with much excitement and posts about configurations and amazing driving experiences.

Then an occasional fault started to appear.

Now it's littered with threads about failures, depreciation, sky high repair costs, and a non existent - customer service from Porsche.

Its really quite depressing. Turned me from an enthusiastic 1st time Porsche owner, to someone who feels like he's sitting on a ticking time bomb.

It will be my first and last Porsche.

That’s too bad really. These problems are not specific to Porsche (maybe save the crazy Porsche tax) nor are they uncommon across the EV sector as a whole - every EV is dropping value like a meteor, EVs tend to take less regular maintenance but seem a little bit more nightmarish when something IS wrong, etc.

Mine is currently at the dealer for the electrical system malfunction error and looking forward to getting it back…though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t browsing for replacements for the eventuality it happens again after they fix it, but only continue to look at 911s or 718 4.0 + leasing a DD again.

Just as a reference. A ~1cm wide dent in a metal roof of a 6 year old Toyota Corolla.

Insurance approved body shop estimate $3,337.11 to repair. The car does have a sunroof (not damaged, but needs to be considered when replacing the metal skin of the rood) which makes it a bit more complicated.

With apologies for derailing the thread to @DerekS (and sympathies), that’s exactly how car forums work. At first everyone exchanges articles and spy shots, then build codes, then pictures and raving reviews, to finally bitterness about faults, imagined or real.

You are reading too much into the themes of the recent threads; people with problems and issues continue posting, whereas the others moved on with life. There’s nothing new to share or discover, and it gets pretty boring to keep posting “my car drove fine today, still no <pick from list of issues>.”

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
I know it is too late for you but I would highly recommend to get the Porsche insurance directly from Porsche.
They claim they will replace parts with real OEM parts

interestingly also insurances much less than CSAA over here in California.


If you have just a panoramic roof and it is costing you $11 K is a lot.
As a matter-of-fact I have the panoramic roof with the electric chrome, I'm scared to even think of this!

Mine was replaced under warranty (internal stress crack) and there is categorically no way it took more than 2 days to do. If it took 2 people to do (how many more could it be), I reckon that couldn't be more than £5k in labour. Maybe there's a difference between quoted hours if they're paying versus us....

It's this sort of shit, however, that is pushing insurance premiums through the roof.

Porsche will need to be careful on this. They are already struggling with depreciation. If insurers price them out of the market, that is only going to get worse.

To prove this I have just checked the Macan EV forum and no one is having faults with their car yet.
This is proof it is a much better car than the Taycan

Yes, for sure. And if you look, 992 is a giant pile of garbage (older ones are slightly smaller piles of garbage, dimensionally speaking). Someone named “jhenson29” posted just yesterday about their clutch pedal going out. ?

My wife says to me (as we drop it off at the dealer), “Your car is stupid. My car doesn’t have any clutches.”

“Your car has two clutches, actually.”

“I don’t have a pedal that doesn’t work.”

I haven’t had a Porsche before and am so far happy with my Taycan overall. I will probably keep it a long time but I never expected low depreciation and it won’t matter anyway until I want to sell it.

IME Forums are places started by enthusiasts which slowly fill with less enthusiastic members who find it on the internet when they are looking for a solution to a problem they have just had before seeking expert opinion.

Some get so big in membership terms the gems are lost in the noise and become too annoying to use any more.

One of my old favourite (hifi) forums has got so big I haven’t got time to read it any more.

"Pretty sure you have a zero comp which means pretty much everything other than a collision is covered at no cost, vandalism, hail or windows."
So there may be options that do cover it.

No worries, I'm not easily offended. Good try though.
For people that are not on vacation, that would rather read a 60page ins doc looking for ambiguous language on what is considered glass and what isn't than ask the expert, that didn't drop out of school in the 7th grade... then yes, you make a good point, just read the policy.

So far they haven‘t said “no” per se, just that they need to get approval for the supplemental amount requested by the dealer. Which they’ve been in NO hurry to do.
