As of tonight, I feel guilty when I see scare stories about future pump prices…. Tonight I swapped my home electricity tariff from £0.075/kWh to £0.0554/kWh night rate; a 26% drop – fixed for 12 months.

Which means a 0%-100% charge would cost me very roughly £4.85. From which I can squeeze 260 Miles if I hyper-mill at this time of year. So ~£4.85 for 260 miles. A fair estimate for an ICE 600+hp 5 seater car, being carefully driven, might be 30 MPG? In which case that’s around 8.7 Gallons or 39 Litres; @ Uk pump price of £1.42/Litre = ~£55 for 260 miles.

And because of Trump’s war; predictions are that the UK pump price could easily exceed £1.50/£1.55/litre by the end of the month = ~£60 for 260 Miles or 12 times what I pay..

It’s just not fair on poor UK ICE drivers.

That is some incredible rate approx. 7.3 cents per kWh. I am paying about 21 cents per kWh in the Indiana USA, but was paying a pretty penny for premium gas for the Cayenne that is $4.90/gallon so costs a lot to venture out of town this weekend, since I could not rely on the Tesla Supercharging to work to take a drive in the Taycan. Public charging was pretty steady at 52 cents per kWh.

I had the same guilty feeling this weekend. I have a dynamic tariff contract and last weekend I was charging for free because it was a sunny and windy day. We filled up both our EVs for free. Actually we even made money since our employer pays a fixed rate of 60ct per kwh when charging

At the same time, my in-laws are much less fortunate and are really feeling the impact of the current fuel prices. That contrast makes it feel a bit uncomfortable sometimes.

If you are feeling guilty, perhaps take solace in knowing how much your Taycan depreciated, or how much it will cost you to maintain it after warranty.

Seriously, a Toyota Prius will be cheaper per mile than your Taycan even if the gasoline price goes double your predictions (especially if you get the plug-in version, so most of your commuting is electric). Heck, even a whatever equivalent of Toyota Corolla pure ICE car you guys have in the UK, it costs less brand new than first year depreciation on a Taycan Turbo (heck, it costs almost the same as I paid in sales tax alone for my Taycan Turbo).

I recently completed my first arctic trip to Norway/Sweden in an ICE vehicle and it cost a total of €837. That was me picking the "most expensive" fuel option at every stop and this was a week or two before the Iran war and the spike in prices.

Looking back at our typical arctic trip in our Taycan Turbo S, we'd spend approximately €550 on electricity. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the cost of doing the ~6,500km journey wasn't even twice the cost – I had really expected it would at least be.

Even with charing rates being very low in Norway and hotels often gifting us electricity it does go to show how expensive public charging has become.

For sure home charging (we still have a Fiat 500 EV) is very keen and we're lucky that our ICE vehicle is a weekend/adventure trip car, rather than daily commuter.

EON V17 - I swapped from V13 - It's not a smart tariff - If you like it, be aware it kicks in on Apr 1st - so the tariff jumps from 7.5p to 9+p night time for the rest of this month - but I don't have travel plans this month and I wanted to grab it and fix it for 12 months ...

The UK cap reduces Apr 1st, so there could be similar or better tariffs around then- but I have a feeling Trump's brainless ' I will go it alone , no need to consult, special operation'; may have a role to play before the cap reduces.. ..... U pays your money and takes your chance...

I would have a quite similar depreciation on my exclusive no-sense gas guzzler I would own, instead of my exclusive no-sense electric Porsche I actually own.

So I just keep enjoying AND saving money still.

FWIW - Some pundits are now predicting $90-100/barrel oil to end of year - So 600hp cars of Taycan's calibre (a Prius is not a valid comparator); may depreciate a tad more than predicted a month ago... We live in interesting times!
