Aaaannnnd mine's dead too. Dropping the car off at the dealership next week, they don't know when they'll be able to fix it...

Has anybody in Europe had a recall for a new Heater? My car is due to go in for new PPF on the front bumper late January and I asked them to do a check about heater recall. They came back and said my car was not affected , which seems odd, given the message in the US. There all heaters produced before Feb -23 needed replacing if I remember correctly? At present I. Sweden in minus 20 C so I do not want that heater to fail on the trip home.

The question I would like the answer to: “Is Porsche selling cars that they know are faulty and then letting the customer have all the inconvenience associated with that failure”. I am of course talking about heater failures. My 2020 4S had a heater replaced. I then ordered a GTS - expecting the problem to have been fixed - to then find after a year of ownership that also failed! The only way this could happen is my new car was sold knowing it had a potential fault. Not just that, but when I did fail I then needed 3 trips to the dealership to get the car fixed! Yes they did a good job, but my question still stands “did Porsche sell me a car knowing it had a high probability of failure, yet made no effort to fix the problem BEFORE it failed”.

I fear yes is the answer.

Edit Perhaps a bit unfair to give a straight “yes” since I am sure they were putting effort into fixing the problem just had so far failed and kept selling in the meantime.

A friend got a message for his 2020 4S to have the heater replaced by the improved version. Should be done in January.

Mine (2022 RWD) failed few weeks ago and I still received the old version; so fingers crossed it will survive coming 3 months. They mentioned that I will get improved version mid ‘23.

Btw different dealers.

I recently had my car into the dealer to have a suspension noise fixed. I inquired about a replacement for my June 2022 built car. They said that no replacement was necessary. Is the heater issue based on a set of build dates, a supplier, or the design itself? I thought that “older” Taycans like mine have an older design that needs to be replaced. Unless they are simply waiting for the old ones to fail before declaring the need for replacement?

That is at least good info from the dealer. Even it only will be replaced later in the year, they have acknowledged it.
But my information from Smartmobility and the dealer is that it Dows not need replacement !

What a mess Porsche makes of these recalls. At least they could publish this on the app or website. They must be dead scared that something of this gets out?

It is out. A recent article published in the UK shows the Taycan is the least reliable EV and most of them are not repaired within a reasonable timeframe. They should take action to solve things correctly. Another UK article says it is the best EV to drive. Both articles are correct.

"We know you'll have to drive often to your local service, so why not drive there in the best EV? Porsche. There is no substitute."

1. A Taycan forum in Germany I follow has posts that a least a few there have been told to bring the car in for heater replacement even though the car heater is working.
2. Based on @perski post about Porsche replacing heaters , Porsche is metering out the new heaters to cars based on its assessment of failure risk and timing. Although the article seems focused on Norway, I'd guess they are doing the same thing in other countries.
3. I was told by PCNA that the US heater recall was limited to 475 cars initially. Impression I got is that cars will be added to that list in the future.

I conclude from this that every Taycan having a heater manufactured before Feb 14, 2023, will eventually get a new heater. Either when the existing heater fails, or when Porsche adds the car to the recall.

If the heater on your car fails, you should ensure the replacement is a heater manufactured after Feb 14, 2023, or you will likely have another failure.

(And who knows if post Feb 14 2023 heaters will really be more reliable...)

I already have replaced the heater once and that was the reason I asked the service guys. And that was in 2021, so not one of the new ones. It is just so frustrating to have to bring the car to the dealer as they have so limited loaners. It is a 45 minutes drive to them as well.

Will be interesting to see if they come back for this recall later then?

Oh and the US recall seems to mention all heaters. They are even encouraged to collect the car from the customer! They must be dead scared of something now.

I think you are right. The sad part is their best efforts they can afford yielded such poor results in 4+ years. If things keep going this way, they will get eaten for breakfast by the newcomers who solve problems much faster than this. Sure they are still behind, but moving much faster, they will eventually pass (Porsche should be able to relate to this analogy). Perhaps Porsche is clinging to the fact that the newcomers tend to focus on EV tech, so Porsche an sustain itself on a mature ICE car technology in which they have plenty of experience in and it's not innovating very fast? They are however risking alienating customers if they stand them in droves in the middle of freezing weather, then make them drive cheap ICE cars while waiting for heater parts they knew were going to be needed but failed to stock up before winter.

Heater failure for my Tacyan MY22 2 days ago. Only cold air out of vents.

Porsche don’t have loaners so I’m stuck driving it while I wait for loaner cars to be available. I have another car but it’s a convertible and the roof is leaking. Sucks that both my cars have winter problems. Using the heated seats and steering wheel and wearing my jacket while driving. Fortunately my cars stays in an underground garage overnight.
I’m in Portugal.

Brought the car in yesterday morning, they said they didn't know when it'd be ready. Apparently they need some special tool that they only have 2 of and 1 was broken, so they only could do 2 heater replacements a day. But they still got it fixed in the same day.
