After 23000+ miles, my Taycan 4S needs new tires in the next few weeks. The car came factory installed with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which I’ve liked. But I’m wondering if there’s anything better out there, especially if anyone has any advice or opinions about the newer EV-specific performance tires that have come out in the last year or so and promise increased range. The tire retailer/installer I'll use likes the Michelin Pilot Sport but also recommends the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Seasons.

both are NFO, I think it depends on whether you drive in temperatures below 40degrees f. The p7 blue is also NFO, is going to be better than the all season in warm weather. Pilot Sport 4s is not nfo, although some members like it alot.

What’s NFO? I’m in Northern California and rarely do any snow driving.

NFO basically means that the tire is Porsche certified for the Taycan. Certification means that Porsche engineers and test drivers and the tire manufacturer collaborated on the tire development-construction, compound, etc. As far as I know, In 20", only pilot sport 4 and Pirelli p7 blue and all season are NFO. A tire that is not specifically designed for an EV and is NFO might be good or even better, but was not developed and fine tuned by Porsche specifically around the vehicle. I can think of many Porsche models where in my experience there is a better tire than what is Porsche approved.

Great explanation. Thanks.

But now the $2000+ question—which non-NFO tire is better than the Pilot Sport 4 or the Pirelli Centurato P7?

Better is entirely subjective. What do you want out of your tires that you didn’t get from the Michelin, that’s where you start.

IMHO the Michelins you had are the best option in the 20” size unless you need 4 season tires or plan on doing track days or spend a lot of the time in the mountains driving the car hard.

Great question — I want it all; bodacious handling and 20% improved range through better rolling resistance. That said, I don’t track the car and I probably don’t drive it as hard as others, but an improved range would be awesome.

I’ll be stepping up to the PS4S when I get new wheels in the spring, they’re just good. To me the only upgrade would be a cup 2 like tire, otherwise you’re splitting hairs over nothing.

What do you guys know or think about the new Hankook Ion evo tire. Imo it's not NFO approved but it is triple A rated in EU Tire label. So may be a good alternative?

I'm impressed you got 23K miles out of a set of tires, especially EV tires. I have the same product on my car which is at 15K now. I'm on track to match your performance. I'm very happy about that!

IME it is pretty well impossible for a normal consumer to keep a car long enough or test tyres on it long enough to form a valid opinion.
Not that people don’t have an opinion, often a strong one.

Whether there actually is a “better” tyre than the NF0 ones is just speculation, probably based on brand enthusiasm, internet bollox and often past experience of tyres which are no longer made on a different car.

I am biased towards Michelin based on the quality of engineering in Formula 1 with Bridgestone and Goodyear close behind.
Pirelli were not in the same league but ended up with an exclusive contract with F1 when the “tyre war” ended.

In the end good engineering fact is in short supply (and pretty well totally absent from the internet IMO) so I shall be sticking with NF0.

That means the Goodyear asymmetric for summer tyres as delivered.

One of the things that I noticed on (previous) Internet car forums.

Members would replace brand X with brand Z tyres and post rave reviews about how much better they are and how much more grip they have.

Amazed that a brand new tyre performs better than one that's done 20k and is nearly down to the threads.

One thing that is very apparent however is thread wear (and hence compound) and I can emphatically say that the NF0 Pirellis that came with my car (summer performance) have possibly the worst conventional road thread wear I’ve experienced - great grip, good sound suppression, lousy wear - will eventually go to my usual Michelin (PS4S) but hoping they deliver an EV version to be available here soon - unfortunately (or not!) I have another set of Pirellis to use as I got a very good deal on price but that’s OK.

What would you choose for Miami, that is crazy hot all year.
No snow, no mountains, rains a lot but other than that nothing else.
My car came with the Pirelli NFO on my 21”s

rear tires based on how low i drive are eating quick, i had this on another thread

BUT question here is: with you all tire knowledge what would be the best for a all year round weather ?
