HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! i'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone. As i was driving, i switched from normal to sport mode, and the scariest thing happened. The car jolted, and then when i pressed the accelerator, my car would only go up to 30mph, and never went above 30. i made a U-turn and came back home, as i knew something was terribly wrong. I drove my car a few days later, and it seemed like everything was back to normal, as i could go above 30mph.

Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

i had the light jolt experience few times and i assume its the rear axle motor downshifting - never had the 30mph speed limit, anything in the dash?

Do you have a speed limiter set somewhere, and could you have activated it somehow? (Not sure if you can set it for "Sport", but pretty sure you can for "Range" and think I may have experienced similar with that (not 30mph, but enough slower than I was going to notice it...).

A jolt is normal when going from Normal to Sport as a transmission shift, but limited power is not.
Limited speed behavior sounds like a Speed Limiter but having it accidentally set is unlikely.
Hopefully, it is just a one-off unexpected behavior.

Scary is when the car goes 200 MPH for no reason!!
Joke aside, it has happened to me twice; it is scary in the sense that you think the car is going to stop. After shutdown and restart, it went away. It never happened again and I have 40,000 miles.

I like the downshift! Happens at 59 km/h when switching to sport above 60 km/h.

the other thing never happened to me.
Happy, nothing scary happened!

My clutch got stuck once and threw all kinds of codes but I don't remember the speed being limited to 30

Wait, excuse me? Your car continued to accelerate on its own until the limiter was reach, twice?!?! Can you elaborate?

Did you by chance jam on the accelerator at the exact time you switched modes?

This happened to me once. Felt the jolt, got the turtle icon and transmission error, speed limited. Was alarming.

Since then, I only jam on the accelerator after switching modes, not at the same time.

At least two different times when switching from Normal to Range my speed was then limited to 55MPH, no limit was set anywhere.

I thought there was always a limit set in Range mode -

Most of my highway driving is done in Range, it's a software glitch when occasionally it thinks I've set it to 55MPH, but in reality the slider is set to the US market 85MPH maximum.

You probably tripped a cruise control stalk on the left side of the steering wheel.
That stalk has a very unfortunate location and is very easy to trip accidentally and when you did, you were probably doing about 30mph which became your “cruise speed “.
