Haha, it’s possible that they’re that clueless right!? Everything feels responsive, and the app connection is still working. So, if this is the solution, I’m content. I’m more surprised that 3G is still working; I thought they discontinued it to enhance 4G and 5G connections.

I spoke with a Skoda owner (non-EV) and he asked me how I liked my Taycan. I mentioned that it has had an annoying bug over the last few months. He immediately jumped in and asked me, “Is it with the navigation that hangs, crashes, and reboots?” He was experiencing the same bug with his Skoda navigation. Since Porsche, VW, and Skoda all ultimately belong to the same group, is this a coincidence or not?

....

Sadly at Porsche decisions are not made by engineers, and whoever is making the calls, thinks people will buy a new taycan to get new software, and he thinks wrong lol
If the bean counters were sensible they'd realise upgrading J1.1's to the J1.2 s/w platform would be cost beneficial as well as anything else.

One code base to support, happier owners that their product is going to remain pretty current, better residuals, more people prepared to stick with the marque.

Sure, they'll need to drop some money on the upgrades....but maybe also take the time to improve that process too.

Short-sighted, old school thinking will be the death of them eventually.

Once the hardware is out-paced, just let people know. That's a sensible break point. But untilt then, just keep one platform.

The J1.2 keeps all the performance and battery upgrades to differentiate it. And that lovely new face (!).

Agreed. I know Volvo uses a scheme where they will update the cars for free when they are in for service. If you want the latest and greatest upgrade without other service tasks they will charge you.

Oh, btw they fixed their OTA capabilities in that process so future updates can be rolled out automatically...

Looks like this could be a recipe for a time waste. Anybody's Nav/Planner system now working OK just through a software update?

"Our records show we have received the report you have kindly raised and I have checked our system for further information. I note your vehicle is subject to a technical instruction which will need to be carried out by a Porsche Centre. This instruction is a software update featuring several bug fixing and stabilization measures".

Yes, everyone's... for a few days/weeks; and then it goes back to being broken.
Likely just because it does a memory reset/clears some sort of cache.

I noticed that Porsche Charging Service has been turned off. (Perhaps it’s unclear, but the first three options in the photo are grayed out, and you can’t change the settings. It will indicate that the feature is not available at the moment.) I reenabled it and drove for 10 minutes, but the issue returned.

The strange thing is that I no longer have LTE, but I have 3G. Apple Music works fine, so it seems like I’m getting enough bandwidth. Has anyone experienced the same issue after the latest “fix”?

@Matt-Taycan To recap, your Taycan is a J1.1 and Porsche (which service center?) installed a new PCM on warranty in response to your complaints about the nav? Can you tell us what software version that new PCM is on?
Correct. J1.1 GTS
Porsche Sheffield.

@Matt-Taycan That is the same s/w version I have. Need to verify my h/w. (Unsure, though, whether that h/w id is a revision number or the unique serial number of our units.)

I am not convinced that anything is "faulty". My feeling is that everything works per the original design, but that that original design is today overwhelmed by the huge number of charging stations (your "Old"). This may seem like sophistry but, as I wrote before, if it were merely a fault, I suspect it would long have been fixed.

@chun wrote that a complete rewrite of the nav is available on the J1.2 (further supporting my point before). We must keep our fingers crossed that Porsche will have the sense to release it for the J1.1 also. But since chun also wrote that that new nav integrates in very different ways with the app, we can perhaps sense that making it available on the J1.1 platform isn't trivial.

PS: Anyone ever owned a "Smart TV" for any length of time? Isn't it profoundly irritating how with every year of ownership those TVs become dumber and dumber (as the manufacturer simply refuses to pay up for license renewals or keep the OS up to date) until they are just a "monitor"? We are in a new world with the "software on wheels" modern cars represent. The German legislator had the right idea decades ago when they mandated that car makers have to make spares available for at least 10 years after the last model ran off the production line. We need new legislation to extend this concept to the increasingly large software eco system on-board modern cars.
