Some functions will show blank, because they need to be properly coded. For example the color wheel will not show any colors for most colors beside a few in j1.1.

But it's not "incompatible".

I have seen it running on out of warranty cars, and have been tempted myself.

The "video" app will also not show properly/work, as it needs to be market coded. But still, doesn't make it incompatible.
There are definitely some small nuggets to fix, but it is functional, and all core functions work. At the end of the day, i don't think the small amount of development time is the cost porsche is worrying about with this.
No one showed by now a J1.1 with that software version in any forum. So please show screenshots from out of warranty cars.

I wouldn't be quick to judge the complexity of someone else's codebase without having actual knowledge about it. What seems like a trivial fix from the outside, can become a gargantuan task the moment you begin dealing with dependencies.

What is clear, however, is that this topic isn't at the top of the Kanban board for them.

Agreed on complexity of the software being hard to judge from the outside - if it were easy, they would fix it fast.

In terms of this not being a priority, I don't think so. The Taycan is a clusterf*ck for Porsche image as a premium brand and I bet they are trying hard to mitigate, just not doing a very good job, as it keeps giving.

"We had a car called the Widowmaker, how bad can this Taycan be.."

Something to consider about priority, reputation, et al. is that there's a lot of echo chamber that is created regarding issues within owners' circles on internet forums.

For the general public, these go largely unnoticed. I know it's just my personal observation, but it serves as an example: a friend is investigating to buy his first used BEV. He was speaking with me about potential candidates, and kept mentioning the Taycan because "it was just the best, and very reliable". Obviously, he was unaware of the issues with the 22kw OBC, the fans, the heater, or the damned navigation software. And that comes from a guy that is actively investigating things.

Conversely, I was helping my dad also with finding his first BEV, and was doing a bit of digging aorund. I was thinking of proposing him a Hyundai Ioniq 5, as these seem to be ubiquitous, specs are good, and owners generally give good feedback on them.

Upon digging a bit, I discovered that Hyundai has years-long issue with their ICCU that is currently unresolved, and there's no prospect of this being resolved in the foreseeable future. Which is weird, because their cars are being churned out of factories non stop and in high volumes. So that shows that the issue isn't really transpiring to the general public all that much, and the resolution does not take top priority: otherwise, it wouldn't have been left unresolved for years.

Adding to the existing comments, so already covered: Mine has the reloading nav issue, since about November, went to the dealership for updates and the problem is still there. Using CarPlay atm, dealer has asked me to be patient as there is no fix available or timescale on it.

Used the wireless phone charger for the first time (iPhone) as a consequence, and discovered the overheating problem!!

Charging the iPhone without a case could solve it. For me it did but it was to sad. So I’m not using the charger anymore

If there are recurring issues with charging hardware, heaters, software, etc., buyers factor that in — even if casual owners don’t talk about it outside forums. Used prices reflect confidence. And heavy depreciation usually signals that confidence isn’t exactly strong. When u bring your car back to the dealer he will all of of a sudden be aware of this navigation issue 😂

Are you guys talking about the charger that's inside the armrest? Where you have to like 'clip' the phone in? If so, it doesn't even really work with my 17 Pro because the camera 'bump' stops it making good contact :CWL: I just go old school and have a USB cable in the arm rest...

Had 3885 and 12v fix today - was promised done just after lunch - but took all day.

Beforehand, the service manager told me that the fix he was installing included a patch or code that would fix the issue for definite..... I told him about the experiences of my fellow Forumites here, where the update from 3882-3885 failed, and said I was not going to hold my breath.

As expected, within 4 miles of setting off for home, the same problem occurred, but more consistent - this MO for every fail... after about 4-5 miles from 1st setting destination, 1stly the 'miles to next junction' countdown (top right) would freeze - despite my car icon continuing to move along the track - Next, after about 0.5 miles the car-icon would also freeze. - Then after another ~0.5 miles the NAV would reboot losing the 3d view I had set.

As previously, with charge planner deactivated the nav works fine.

[EDIT] Just noticed privacy mode was on - is now off ; and also, the Nav pack is now 2025.09 - whereas it was 2026.01 (or 02) last time I checked...

Going to feedback to smart mobility as they have asked - and let the OPC know too

cheers

Exact same situation here. I took mine to the Porsche dealer for service this Tuesday — they reassured me that a software update would resolve it 100% 😂

Drove home for about an hour (70 km) without any crashes. The next day I had another long trip, and it started crashing again just five minutes after starting. Now it’s behaving even worse.

Even when it doesn’t crash, it shows the wrong events and destinations (they don’t update).

Mine has been in all week for the same jobs, in my case the service advisor assured me the PCM update would probably not solve the issue! Reason it’s been in so long is a new stored fault has shown up, they think related to the 12v update and they can’t release the car.

To be fully understanding.

This crash fault only manifests itself when route planning with a charging stop is activated

This affects all Taycan

All model years of J1.1

I ask because I have never required a route charging stop, so have not used Nav in this way. I have used destination Nav.

Thanks

For me, with charge planner activated but no charger selected or advised - mine still crashes every 5-6 miles - even short trips with SOC 100% so no need to charge at all

but with charger planner de-activated - I can travel at least 30 miles without PCM rebooting - not tried a longer trip yet

This is correct. With a route active it will crash every 30 minutes and will freeze every 5-10 minutes. Does not matter if it is a route of 5 miles without any stops or a route of 1200 miles with multiple stops
