I was hoping this damn thread would die (of natural causes, mind), as indeed by now this failure seems to be one of simply "when". Wondering if I should leave my car outside for a few nights - while it's still winter.

As a reminder to those who have their cars serviced - check your charging settings upon receiving the car back. I discovered (recently and by accident) that the 'gentle charging' option was enabled, which must have happened when the car was in for the battery leakdown recall.
How long before aftermarket tuners offer a "planned heater failure" service, for those who don't want to drive with a ticking time bomb.

PS> I totally hear you. I don't drive into snow country as often as you do, but I like doing road trips and don't relish the idea of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere without heat, defogging, etc. I've actually chosen not to drive to California this winter partially because I was worried I'd get stuck and have to deal with PCNA recovering me and my car from god knows where. Maybe I'm just reading too much about the heaters failing and have an incorrect perception of the risk? If it's such a low risk, Porsche should just offer anyone with a failed heater a first class ticket home from wherever the car will break down, car recovery back home, and same or better or say $500 a day towards a loaner until the car is back at home.

First class ticket is perhaps a lot to ask for, but Porsche Assistance here in Europe offer repatriation by flights as well as hotel cost and repatriation of the car. I had all that arranged from Stockholm ti South of France in September.

Would have been inconvenient if my heater had broken in Norway at minus 20 C. But it held up all the way back home.

And decided to give up here. Good timing!

Now in to get the second heater replaced, and hopefully the completely new designed one. Will ask to see evidence of article number etc once they are ready with it.

Nice to hear they took care of you and the car. Hopefully the same would happen here. ?

PS> Did they take care of the rest of the trip, or just return you home? If for example you had planned to drive all around Europe for a month, would they provide a rental Taycan for the rest of the trip, or an ICE Porsche and reimburse you for fuel?

I never asked for a loan car etc. I told them from the start that we were on our way back home for some appointments etc. The only thing they asked for was that we stayed in Stockholm for Porsche to be able to analyse the problem. They offered some compensation for sty and meals etc but we did not need that.

After the result they arranged taxi to airport, flight tickets and taxi to destination for us. Repair of car and transport to my Porsche Centre where I could collect the car.

Overall I must say it was quite professionally done, with some hiccups because of language issues. But quickly sorted once we were able to communicate properly. Google translate is not always very accurate!!

Porsche called me today to make an appointment regarding a recall. I asked what was going on and they indicated that the heater was going to be replaced as a preventative measure...So I think it's official now. The replacement takes 1 day...

Scanned back though recent pages here but did not see straight off - is this the typical system error people are seeing when their heater fails (in the Pre-cool page)?

Mine failed to produce any heat this AM and had the App (pre-heat) notice prior and this PCM error in the car (but no more obvious error in the PCM dash!) - again normal/typical?

Sent a note with this pic into SA and assume he'll set up a visit.

I am on my third heater (2020 Taycan Turbo) and it just went out. That’s three heaters that failed in the three winters since I bought the car in May 2021. I wish there was a permanent fix for this.

Ensure that the manufacture date of the replacement heater is after February 14, 2023.

What is the part number of the new heater? My heater was replaced on December 20, 2021 with part number 9J1963507D. Then on February 22, 2023 it was replaced with part number PAD963507. I thought that this second part was the new one that had been fixed. Apparently not.

The part number - particularly what is listed on service report - is not determinative.
You have to know the manufacture date of the heater. Look at photos by @Jonathan S. in this thread.

I am ok if Porsche waits until failure for replacement, but if they EVER try to reach into my pocket for replacement costs, they will not be forgiven. They know they have a problem. Do not visit the financial impact of YOUR design flaw on your early adopter customers that trusted you enough to buy your first gen product.

Porsche, if you are listening…..
