i just completed a Porsche survey on PCM. They implied that the Taycan's PCM charge planner has the ability to "prefer" and "exclude" charging providers/operators. This feature is available in the My Porsche mobile app, which is a great feature.

I just poked around my j1.1 PCM and the feature is not readily found. Is this only available for j1.2 cars?
Yes, it comes with pcm 4360; currently only on j1.2

It is available in the car also on j1.2, not just in the app

FWIW I requested that they update the PCM and modules during a recent visit for a loose rear door handle. They didn't even wait for me to finish my sentence before saying they could not update the PCM to match the 2025 models so I assume this comes up a lot. The presence of a 4xxx series release in whatever portal does not appear to interest or sway them if the service tool does not say to do it automagically then they aren't going to fiddle with it. They did plug in to run whatever module updates were available even though the car was already on 3885 and I do see performance/responsiveness improvements kinds of across the board. I think some of the user interface and gauge cluster behavior is changed - some of the changes are pretty subtle with changes to how thick some of the lines are in the gauges. Coming from whatever state the car was in, things generally feel more responsive and more consistent (in particular the state and speed with which the car wakes from sleep is significantly improved). The only negative thing I have noticed - and maybe I'm forgetting some setting - but it used to be that a CarPlay icon would appear on the ski slope on the top row and I found that handy for getting back to CarPlay after messing with the car's menus. That icon no longer appears.

That is wired; the icon for CarPlay still appears there on mine, also 3885. But to be fair, I didn’t get any ECUs updated - not by choice

I'm having an issue with the Bluetooth connection between my iPhone 14 Pro (running iOS 18.7.1) and the Taycan PCM (I'm not using Apple CarPlay as I prefer to use just the simple Bluetooth connection to play the music library on my iPhone). Before I did the battery software update at the dealer (ARB6/WRS0), I had no issues with this connection—as soon as I got in the car, the connection was automatic and in about 20-30 seconds (if I recall correctly), the music started playing after I started driving, but after this update, the PCM frequently looses connection with the iPhone and the center screen just says "Loading Unit Manager" (translated from Swedish as I don't know exactly what it says in the English version) and freezes, so the only thing I can do then is the two-finger re-boot, after which it works fine again (until it doesn't and I have to repeat this process).

After the battery software update I still had PCM version 3882, so I asked my dealer to update to 3885 (which I believe is the latest version for J1.1; my car is a 2023 GTS Sport Turismo), which they agreed to with the caveat that they normally charge for this, but as I had this Bluetooth issue they agreed to do it for free. The first couple of weeks after the update were fine, but now I'm back to having the same problem again (loosing contact with the iPhone and freezing the center screen in "Loading Unit Manager" mode).

When I check the iPhone everything looks fine, i.e. Bluetooth settings show contact with "Taycan_1179", and since the fix is re-booting the PCM and nothing happens when I re-boot the iPhone, I deduce that the issue lies solely with the PCM software.

Has anyone else had the same (or similar) problem with the Bluetooth connection? If so, have you found a solution (apart from re-booting the PCM with the two-finger manoeuver...), and if so, what was it?

PS. I saw the three-page pdf titled "Overview of new features of the software update" that someone posted in this forum a while ago (let me know if you can't find it and would like me to re-post it), which is a list of a whole bunch of software updates for various control units in the car (columnised "Function", "Description" and "Cluster"); I showed that to my dealer, asking if they could update all this other stuff as well while they had the car in for the PCM update, but they said this update took so long that they didn't have time to do all the other updates... Could it possibly be that I need one of these (e.g. the Instrument Cluster, the Connect, the Gateway or some other update) in connection with the PCM update to resolve this?

Any helpful input is appreciated! :)

First of all, no, they cannot charge for software update if the car is under warranty, and if I were you, I would make an official complaint to porsche for them even suggesting that.

The update from 3882 to 3885 is 25mins as per official procedure, as it's a guided installation where the service technician just starts it via PIWIS. So the reason he gave for not updating the ECUs is bullshit also.

I would try forgetting the bluetooth connection from both phone and PCM, and re-establishing it, see if that fixes anything.
And I would also look for a different dealer if I were you, as this one is clearly incompetent and looking to scam you if given the chance.

To be honest, over time I just couldn't be arsed with the unreliable Bluetooth connection of the car, and I stick to good old reliable cable connection. So that is also an option.

Thanks Chun for taking the time to answer. Sad to hear it seems the dealer exaggerated the software update time, and that they also would normally charge for a software update which you believe is actually covered by Porsche; I'll have to raise this with them.

The reason I would like to have the problem fixed so that it works just as fine as it did before the battery software update, is that it's so convenient to be able to have the Phone in my pocket, get in the car, start and drive away and have the music begin to play automatically, without having to remove the Phone from my pocket, hassle with cables, or press any buttons to get the connection going.

I have already tried once to delete the current Bluetooth connection between the iPhone and the PCM and configure a new one, but I will try that again next time (after having re-booted both the PCM and the iPhone), just in case this could somehow have been corrupted in the memory cache of either unit.

First forget the bluetooth connectyion in your phone, then reboot the phone, then reconnect bluetooth to the car.

There are many benefits to wired connections, actually.
  • For starters, the connection is much more reliable than wireless, especially in regards to the initial handshake
  • Phone gets charged while using it, rather than the other way around. Wireless charging mitigates that, but results in the phone typically overheating.
  • In the context of Carplay, a wired connection sends uncompressed audio from your favourite streaming service, while a wireless connection results in the audio signal being compressed.
So yeah, I am also on the cable camp.

I get what you’re saying, but then again, just look at your avatar. How could anyone say no to a car that looks that good? If I’m ever in the market again, I’ll buy with my heart, not my head. Most likely I’d make the same choice I did three years ago with the Taycan, fully aware of its flaws.

I am of the same mind, the Taycan just fits me like a glove and feels so right despite everything. Any time I drive a different car, something just doesn't live up to the overall experience of a Taycan for me.

Hi guys,
I'm hailing from France, I created an account just to say thank you so much for all the information delivered here !
I'm buying a Taycan Turbo (june 2020) from my Porsche Dealer, I started digging because it doesn't have the Android Auto function (I'm not Apple sorry lol), and the guys didn't seem very "aware" of anything software related.
Coming from an Xpeng G9 Performance I knew I wouldn't get the same level of fanciness when it comes to the UI, the double-screen (plays YT, Nextflix etc) - this Chinese brand is just great (slightly better than Tesla by the way in my humble opinion, I drive my GF's model 3 Perf regularly).
Anyhow, I wanted at least Android Auto, and didn't believe it was only hardware related on Nov 2021 cars & beyond - that was their first answer.
Then the sales guy found in his own database a March 2020 Taycan which was updated with Android Auto in July 2022, by them !
Etc...

I never take "no" for answer, so thank you all for the great help.
Even if I don't succeed breaking their arm to do it, at least now I'm sure it's doable technically :)

Best,
Stéphane

I’m pretty sure 2020 model and latest software supports Android auto. Go and test drive and setup Android auto

Absolutely M. Taycan 4S, I have hard proof that the June 2020 model can have Android Auto : the Porsche sales guy himself found one in his database from March 2020 that was "upgraded" to include Android Auto in July 2022.
And I have seen other forums where users posted picture of when the magical icon finally appeared in their main screen.

Now for all the even more important "tweaks" to autonomy etc that were done by Porsche in the 2021 model with PCM 6.0, in this forum & very thread there is proof (PDF communications from Porsche) that Porsche, worldwide, had started updating the older models to the 6.0 PCM (thus including Android Auto).
So I'm going to bug my dealer until they do it, if they don't I will complain to Porsche central, and I'll keep going higher if I have to, I have no problem contacting a CEO on LinkedIN to explain them if they keep going like this, people are going to buy an Xpeng P7+ instead of Porsche.
Seriously, they need to get their shit together.

Wait what? You don't have 6.0? That was released in summer 22. Just to make sure, you don't have colored icons in PCM?
