Not offered, standard in all the Gen 1 Taycans. The rear motor has a two-speed transmission.
And if I remember correctly (reported on here) the gear shift/clunk is more noticeable in the RWD with just the one motor than the other models.

It's certainly possible that my hearing just isn't very good, but I think it might also be true that there have been some incremental changes in this regard over the years. I have spent a fair amount of effort trying to "catch" my Taycan shifting in any sense - audible or tactile - with absolutely zero luck for 6 months / 5000 miles. It is supposed to happen in the neighborhood of 100km/h, right?

I worked in Automotive research & development for Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai & Kia. I worked on the electric car development programs for each one of those manufactures and I’ve owned a 2013 Tesla Model S with over 200k miles. The high voltage batteries last a really long time 15 years is not a problem, 600,000 miles not a problem, the charging capacity may go down, but they almost never fail, take a look around at how many early Toyota Prius are still on the road.
Man wish you worked at Porsche their batteries don’t last 5-20,000 miles.

Yes, they only told me this after I finalized the purchase…. Perfect timing to get me thinking about a trade-in for my next Porsche in a few years.
Knowing what I know now about all the growing pains Porsche’s EVs are suffering through & knowing customers like me that fell in love with the Taycan knowing about the nagging Taycan new model type issues every new model introduced goes through but with EVs it adds another level of complexity to identify short term & long term reliability issues. It’s just a matter of time Porsche/Audi/VW figures it out to make their EVs with the same reliability we’ve come to expect in their ICE cars…. Until then, I get to drive one of the most beautiful performance sedans on earth… I felt it was a good bet!
Just spent 5076 USD for 3 years warrenty extension. Then the car will be 6 years old, perhaps enough to move on...

At least where I live there is the "Porsche Approved" scheme that you can add to all Porsches when the factory warranty expires. This allows you to basically extend the factory warranty until the car has done 200.000km or is more than 15 years old.

It's priced relatively fair (140 ish EUR/month). That should in theory keep these cars going for quite a while here without the owners having to spend a fortune.
Wow, that's exactly what we did here in China for 5076 for 3 years is exactly 141 USD per month.

I bought the extended warranty on my Taycan to get me to 2030, the same time my warranty runs out on the battery… Cost me $7800 extra…

I bought a CPO car so the warranty is extended quite awhile. Also added an extra year for $2000ish.

When speaking of "reliability issues" are we talking about failures or just annoyances. I don't really consider a recall for a minor glitch a "reliability issue". I reserve that for things that prevent me from using the car. I expect recalls on a product that is so software dependent. My only real glitch so far after a couple thousand miles is the 360 camera being intermittent from time to time. Seems to happen on Sunday morning after church and clears up later in the day. I have not once had it happen on any other day.

I have three dealers "near" me. Of course "near" is about 125 miles.

Taking the infos from TF maybe I am the only one Taycan owner who did not extend the basic (2-year in EU) warranty.

The battery is under a regular 8-year/180k km warranty still, without any extension. Recall repairs are also covered by Porsche independently from warranty.
Annual warranty extension with the local taxes is EUR2,5k.

It is a risk but the most expensive part (battery) is still covered.
Maybe the saved annual EUR2,5k will cover the coming repairs, so I decided not to buy a 'repair cost' in advance.

My car just become 2-year old (produced 06.2022) with 40k km.
Had only one issue under this time, a charging door failure (mechanical one).
No rattles or any issue, my most reliable car up to now, incl. my ex 911 991.2.

We will see....

The onboard charger isn’t covered (7 k). Secondairy defect because if battery failure are not covered (some mentions on the forum if expensive repairs).

But probably the insurance still makes a profit or they wouldn’t offer it. So if you are on the good side of the gauss curve you made a good choice.

Yes, kind of gambling, but life is a kind of game...
The onboard charger is the second most expensive part, if I survive with, I am more or less fine.
Additionally if the car is not older than 36 months, and the roots of a trouble was in the car when built it is also on Porsche. At least in my country.
+ there are more and more crash totaled cars, onboard charger needs to screw out and in. Costs on the used market ca. EUR2k.
Do not need to run with this kind of things to official Centers with cars out of warranty.

What is the point of the extended warranty and fear of breaking parts when we all have insurance.

Not so sure about that, if your avatar photo is accurate. You might want to ask @DerekS about glass roof repairs.
This is a damage issue what is under insurance (that I have of course) not warranty.
…but got it…
