I have never owned any vehicle with the sheer number of recalls my 3 Taycans have had.
Which in itself, is not a big deal. Things happen and I'm grateful for the fixes.

But the real problem with Porsche recalls is they put them out, and then can't fulfill them within a reasonable amount of time.

The net effect is we pretty much always have at least one nagging recall over our heads.

WTF happened to this company?

I completely understand this, i'm at my 7th Taycan and the one that is at service the most is my Macan EV (over 30 days now..) for a software upgrade.
I can assure you that in this case, the upgrade is available and it's flowless as my Audi ran it with no issues..

I have a 2 years old Taycan and 30 days in service with recall and campaigns updates. And seems more coming.

I thought the Taycan would have more recalls than a 911 since Porsche doesn’t have EV powertrain expertise but it looks like they can’t even properly do a passenger seat or reverse cam. Oops.
Or brakes.

Mismanagement like this:

This video was insightful in understanding the problems that plague the VW/Porsche/Audi family of software products. Legacy software players are trying to catch up to startups and Chinese competitors, which is very common across many companies in the marketplace. There are significant opportunity costs in making the right business decisions—get them wrong, and the company may not survive.
  1. Building
  2. Purchasing
  3. Partnering
@SoccerMan94043 Thanks!

I’m a Software Engineering Leader that works for a company made up of acquisitions that have never been integrated. Of course our CFO thinks costs are too high so we put into place a platform strategy to start to address that.

This is the message I sent to our Business and Technical Leaders after running across that video:

I thought this video on the software platform failure of VW group is interesting and lots of parallels to every enterprise I've worked in:

The enterprise wants to compete more effectively and creates a central innovation team, but wants to move faster so adds too many people, leading to too much bureaucracy.

They launch it with their most experienced engineers, but their mindset is only about the Business Unit they came from and quickly disregard technical choices that might be good for others but not good for them

Money comes from each business unit (VW, Audi, Porsche, etc) for this team and each wants what they want, leading to missed opportunities to lift all boats

Enterprise brings in consultants when things don't move fast enough due to the processes they've established, slowing things down more (reporting status twice a day for example)

Business Units get frustrated and create competing software teams (though some of them had that all along and used this as an excuse)

Result: losing to much more nimble competitors (US and China)

So from what I read, the recall is to fix a software bug that very rarely causes the rear camera signal to get blocked and not show on the screen. So since the condition happens 1% of the time most drivers would not notice any before/after difference. I.e., it is not about improving the camera view or perspective. Is that the case for your Etron? Or did it actually improve the camera view?

Yes, same case, most of the two cars hardware is the same, in this case it seems that the software had the same bugs as well..

I got my update and didn’t fix anything
As in, your camera is still going black?

Then it might be a hardware issue, some cut cable or some loose connection.
If you are talking about clarity of video feed, there is absolutely a difference, but expectations need to be managed. It's not a massive improvement.

Do you have the recall letter / email, to see the recall number? Or did they note it down in your car inspection book?

The black camera. I had to visit a couple of days ago because of a heater change and I read about the update and asked them if they had it already and if they could install it and they said yes. Sadly today when I was parking one of the cameras was black again.

they didn’t write it down. I just have it in the invoice as “camera software update” or something like that.

Altho not yet notified by Porsche, I see my car is now on recall AGAIN (I have lost track of how many times!). I am not clear if this will need a service center visit or be "over the air". Anybody know?
