if they can keep this at $60,000, I think it'll sell well.

it's a 3 series, don't expect it to be a sexy beast. Functional in design, just like the Neue-Klasse vehicles, E30, and E36 sedans. It's a retro-themed vehicle, and that price point will sell well considering that the i4 makes up a good chunk of 4-series sales ( I believe it outsells the standard ICE 4 series with it's 3 body style line-ups vs just 1 i4 grand-coupe ), and the i5 makes up approx 30% of US 5-series sales, and 50/50 mix in european sales.

The iX3 is already outshining their expectactions, BMW didn't anticipate that. BMW seems to be doing EV's right (like Caddilac and Volvo from legacy automakers).

The current tests in real world for the ix3 are showing a 10 to 80% in 22 to 25 min. That’s slower than even the J1.1. They were claiming 400kw peak but the curve is not good in real world.
I prefer a fast charging car than a long range and it won’t have a long range when you will drive fast on autobahn.

BMW always lies about their numbers. I have first gen ix50 and I'm getting far more than what they estimated in terms of range. I'm getting 390 miles. I bet new i3 will have more than 500 mi range. Even though it says 440mi

Very nice car!

But I fell asleep after about 7 minutes. This guys video just is far too long!
This guy never learns how to make the reviews better, talks as he walks...

BMW are not "lying" nor are they even being conservative. It's the nature of the standardized test cycles the automakers conform to. BMW uses a different main motor technology than basically everyone else. Most everyone use permanent magnet synchronous motors, PMSM, which are most efficient at high loads and low speeds = city driving. BMW rear motors are externally excited synchronus motors, EESM, which are most efficient at low load and high speed = highway cruising but they are relatively inefficient in city driving.

I feel BMW has made the best choice for a main drive motor. I don't care at all about range when I'm tootling around town each day before I go home and plug in for the evening. I for sure care about range when I'm on the highway during a road trip across Texas and have to use public chargers.

There are other benefits to using EESM; they do not rely on magnets so no China supply issue, cooling is easier without magnets, manufacturing cost is lower. The downsides are a bit larger motors and about 15 kg +/-5 kg weight penalty, more complex controls. BMW seems to have mastered the controls.

Our previous i4 and current i5 is remarkable given it's now "dated" tech and consistently being well above EPA, even on highway driving. Whatever they are doing with their asynchronous motors, it's easily more efficient than the j1 permanent magnets as I am right at EPA or just slightly higher.

They're actually synchronous. The construction is basically like an alternator.

I'm just happy to see BMW moving away from beaver teeth design.
From what I've read, the SUVs keep the taller "buck teeth" grill, the sedans get the wide "kidneys in kidneys" grill.

The car would be really nice if it had good dynamics which are on paper and the way it looks on the bare chassis part of the video is very similar to the existing i4, i hope it's tuned better... no reviews about that yet.
