I collected my car from the dealer on Thursday, after recalls for brake hoses, reprogramming of PSM for brakes, battery tests ARB6, 7 etc. All done but not in the timeframe the thought, it took 2 extra days?

I must say the brakes feel much better now, firmer and more consistent. I know the initial push on the brake pedal does not engage the physical brakes, rather regen. But I think the blending of my brakes have improved quite a lot.

My battery cells seem also to have been equalised as it looks much more even across all the cells now. Slight variation for the 2 modules I got replaced, but nothing dramatic.

One peculiar observation though was the statement in the recall letter. Porsche went to a long explanation on how to avoid charging to more than 80%, either via AC or DC. Since the Taycan can not be set to only charge to 80% on DC, there was quite a lecture about how to ensure this.

So to my surprise my car was hooked up at the dealer to their DC HPC and charged to 100% at collection? ???

Same story in Switzerland. Letter advising me to charge to 80% max, meanwhile, dealer charges the car to 100% before returning it to me. Not to mention keeps it topped up at 100% the whole time it's at the shop - also not advisable for the kind of battery chemistry taycan has.

Just a clown show

If the car is in the shop, I could understand it. Perhaps they need to reset the BMS etc to see the charge levels of the different cells???

But to do that out in their visitor car park with other customer cars parked and charging on AC or DC seems peculiar?
Any how it all went fine and the car is back and functioning well.

Too many steps in the process chain - must inform everyone (and they have to remember per car), from the techs, to the valets who wash and park the cars at the charger, etc, etc. This is yet another example of how Tesla does it so much better - a charge limit would be imposed via OTA, nobody, even the owner would have to remember. The limit can be a soft limit (allow the operator to override each time), or a hard limit (safety issue, cannot charge above x% until recall completed). The saddest thing in all this is that Tesla has been doing this since before Mission-E concept was even announced, so Porsche absolutely knew this solution, and chose to do it differently for whatever reasons (whether it was because they really thought their way was better, or because of a "not invented here" syndrome, or because they lacked the skills to copy Tesla's "black magic", who knows).

A few years ago I read somewhere a quote from a Porsche exec along this lines that no-one buys a Porsche for the tech.

And I've had exactly the same from my dealership when I've had all the problems with my 2 Taycans!
It's almost like "hey, spend a 6 figure sum with us, buy a car you've aspired or dreamt of but don't expect it to work all the time or properly. If you want that buy another brand. That's the 'price' you pay"! ?

Yea, but presumably they buy them to drive, or as garage or driveway decoration / status symbol, neither of those are helped by the car spending time in the service bay. Unless there is a new kind of customer that Porsche discovered, the ones who primarily enjoy telling people "my Porsche is in service" - perhaps those who don't have enough parking at home but still want a status symbol? :p

I suppose I did really!

I consider Porsche's rear wheel steer, stability management and dynamic chassis control tech to be peerless, and selected all of them and torque vectoring for mine.

I was and am totally uninterested by any sort of driving assistance so did not select any of that.

With the exception of central locking (I would prefer via a nice small, light old fashioned car key) and a device to play radio and perhaps music from a USB stick none of the rest is of much interest to me. A conveniently positioned 'phone mount would have been good enough for me, for sat nav.

Glad I got massage seats too.

I think that's exactly the point, @f1eng - you're obviously the type of customer being talked about. Porsche have made a name for the driving dynamics and all the 'tech' involved there but the reference was for all the kit you don't care about: touch-screens, OTA, remote apps, etc. - the stuff ex-Tesla owners on this forum are always complaining they miss in the Taycan experience.

Obviously that's no excuse to get the basics wrong: no-one signed up to have their car in the workshop for long periods instead of on the road, irrespective of which side of the tech fence you sit.

What I was meaning was that a lot of the people wingeing about poor "tech" in Porsches have actually f*ck all idea what car tech is.

The 4 wheel steering system involves sophisticated technical knowledge and programming, as does the stability system, torque vectoring and dynamic chassis control.
This is all TECH and that is what I bought the car for.

So I, personally, DID go to Porsche for the tech.

Not peripheral bollox ;)

I know what you mean though...

Go and park it outside the dealership and tell them it stays there until they fix it?
Next to a batch freshly delivered 911s GT3 RS's and a few 918s.....see how quickly they get that Taycan out of the way :)
